Needy Helper 2015 Diary Excerpts: A Life After Quitting Alcohol
In 2010, Lee Davy quit alcohol to save his marriage. It didn't work. His wife asked for a divorce. He reluctantly obliged. He tucked his 9-year old son into bed for the last time. He gave everything he possessed to a friend. He moved into his mother’s spare room, quit his 19-year career in the rail industry, created the Needyhelper to help other people quit alcohol, travelled around the world, cleaned out £30,000 in debt, overcame a sugar addiction, a gambling addiction, and a pornography addiction.
He stopped eating meat and became vegan. Later he would join the Effective Altruism movement and donate a percentage of his gross annual income to effective charities, as well as create his non-profit The Needy Altruist. He went through the pain of a horrific divorce; the anguish of trying to be a father to a son he barely saw, and then fell in love with a woman who lived over 5,000 miles away.
All of this was possible because he stopped drinking alcohol.
In a bid to help others to learn ‘what happens next?’ Lee Davy has created the Needy Diary. An up-close and very personal look into the life of a man who has an uncanny ability to quit any bad habit that seems to get in his way. A life free of alcohol is a great one, but it comes with sacrifice. It can be lonely; boredom comes calling; everlasting friendships become not so enduring, but with enough hard work and perseverance, great things emerge from those painful moments.
This book was written to help you understand ‘habit change’ from inside the mind of someone going through the change, and hopefully, give you a few laughs along the way.
If you have an addiction and have struggled to overcome it, or you have a feeling that something’s not quite right with your life, but can’t put your finger on it, then this is the book for you.
